Veterans Day - Armistice Day honors America's resilience, tenacity and strength. It is a tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for their cherished homeland. W4EJ, in collaboration with Citizen Action of Wisconsin, Northside Rising, and over 100 similar-minded individuals and organizations visited the Capitol in Madison as a gesture of respect for the land they valiantly defended. We advocated for:
The Climate Accountability Act
Requires the State Legislature to pass a concrete and enforceable plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030 that maximizes the economic benefit for all Wisconsin residents.
2% of income Rate Cap Bill
No one should pay more than 2% of income for utilities.
Regional Transportation Authority Bill.
Make a Milwaukee Environmental Collaboration Office. For both economic and environmental reasons, Wisconsin should be dramatically expanding, not cutting, public transit.
Wisconsin Green Amendment - Authors: The legislation is championed by Democratic lawmakers including Representative Darrin Madison, Senator Mark Spreitzer, and Senator Jodi Habush Sinykin.
Establish a constitutional right to clean air, clean water, healthy soil, and a stable climate.
Require government officials to protect these rights.
Provide a legal pathway for citizens to seek redress if their environmental rights are violated.
Apply the protection equitably to all communities, including marginalized ones who often bear the brunt of environmental pollution.
Representative Ryan Clancy gave us a sneak peak at a draft bill to reduce taxes and fund schools. It's in the fifth draft but so far it looks amazing.
